Underground Railroad Quilt-A-Long
Discover History, Myths, and Mystery Through Quilting
Step into the fascinating world of Underground Railroad Quilts, where history meets artistry. These quilts are surrounded by compelling stories and legends, with some traditions suggesting they served as secret codes to guide enslaved African Americans to freedom along the Underground Railroad. Others believe the blocks were designed to reflect the struggles and hopes of those who created them, using patterns to preserve their history and voice their resilience. Regardless of the historical debate, these quilts hold a profound cultural significance, combining the beauty of quilting with powerful narratives of courage, community, and freedom.
This diagram is a representation of the quilt; the colours and blocks may vary. Our actual fabrics will be chosen to represent colours and textures typical of the time period.
