Quilting Basics - Happy Hour 6 Week Workshop

6 Week Duration. Suitable for the beginner quilter who has operated a sewing machine before (Basic operations like threading a machine, wind bobbin, select stitches, change the needle). New to sewing or unfamiliar with modern sewing machines? Our Machine Basics Class is a required prerequisite to ensure you're comfortable and confident before joining this class.

The Happy Hour book is ideal for the new quilter to learn the foundational skills of accurate cutting, piecing, assembling the blocks, adding borders, layering and machine quilting. More experienced quilters will be delighted at the speed in which these modern designs come together.

The book is included with your class fee and features several quilts, bags, table toppers, and a cushion. You will choose from 2 of the quilts in the book.

We love this book as it has "second helpings" projects to use up the scrap cuts from the quilts. With the skills learned during class, you will be able to take on any of the projects in the book with confidence.

The following will be taught during class:

Week 1 - Cutting and Piecing

Week 2 - Assembling the blocks

Week 3 - Adding borders

Week 4 - Layering preparing binding

Week 5 - Machine Quilting

Week 6 - Binding 

You will need to bring to class:

• Rotary cutter
• 6" x 24" or 6.5" x 24" ruler
• Seam Ripper
• Coordinating thread

Fabrics (stop by the shop to pick up your book and we will review the fabric requirements with you. We have several curated bundles you can choose from for your quilt.) The price of the class includes pattern book.

You will receive a 15% discount plus loyalty points on the supplies purchased for this class at The Sewing Cafe. 

Homework must be done between classes. If you do not have access to a sewing machine, you can book time in our classroom for $15 per hour. 

There are no makeup classes scheduled for this workshop. Please ensure you are able to come to each one.
