6 Week Duration. Suitable for the Confident beginner quilter who is comfortable with sewing machine operations like threading a machine, wind bobbin, select stitches, change the needle). This is an ideal place to practice nesting your seams to achieve well aligned points.
(EnPointe Quilts add visual appeal by turning our blocks 45 degrees. This classic configuration also allows us to explore the secondary pattern created by the 9 patch blocks.During this class you will learn the important foundational skills of accurate cutting, accurate piecing and accurate pressing. With this solid foundation, you will be able to assemble, layer, quilt and bind your quilt with quality results.
The following will be taught during class:
Week 1 - Cutting and Piecing the 9 Patch Blocks
Week 2 - Techniques for Side and Corner setting triangles
Week 3 - Assembling a quilt top “En Pointe”
Week 4 - Layering
Week 5 - Machine Quilting
Week 6 - Binding
You will need to bring to class:
- Rotary cutter
- 6" x 24" or 6.5" x 24" or 8 ½” x 24” ruler
- Awl
- Seam Ripper
- Coordinating thread
- Perfect Baste Spray (week 4 for layering)
- Fabrics Requirements:
- Fabric 1 (Red): 1.2m (we used 3 different red fabrics, 0.4 m of each)
- Fabric 2 (black): 1.5m (we used 3 different black fabrics, 0.5m of each)
- Background (Grey): 2.4 m (Squares, Corner Setting Triangles and Side Setting Triangles)
- Binding: 0.6m
- Batting 1.9m of batting with a minimum width of 93”
- Backing: 1.9m if using 108” wideback. If you prefer to piece quilting cotton for you backing, you will 4.3m (seam will run vertically on the back of your quilt.
If you choose to make this quilt in red, black and grey, it creates a replica of the Beth's Quilt from Yellowstone. This Quilt is a generous lap size (63.5” x 76”) which is perfect for 2 people to cuddle up under.
The price of the class includes the pattern. Fabrics, batting and thread sold separately. You will receive a 15% discount plus loyalty points on the supplies purchased for this class at The Sewing Cafe.
Homework must be done between classes. If you do not have access to a sewing machine, you can book time in our classroom for $15 per hour.
There are no makeup classes scheduled for this workshop. Please ensure you are able to come to each one.
