6 Week Duration. Suitable for the beginner quilter who has operated a sewing machine before (Basic operations like threading a machine, wind bobbin, select stitches, change the needle) or has completed Sewing Basics Level 1.
Half Square Triangles (HSTs) are one of the most foundational — and versatile — quilt blocks. In this skill-building workshop, we’ll take a deep dive into the perils and pearls of four popular HST construction techniques. By making multiple blocks using each method, you’ll learn when and why to choose one technique over another, and discover which works best for your quilting style.
Together, we’ll use our completed Half Square Triangles to create a modern lap-sized quilt, similar to the sample shown.
With an emphasis on accurate cutting, precise piecing, and proper pressing, this course will guide you through the entire quilting process — from blocks to a finished quilt.
What We’ll Cover
- Week 1 - HST Techniques: Traditional and AccuCutter
- Week 2 - HST Techniques: “4 at a Time” and “8 at a Time”
- Week 3 - Assembling the Quilt top
- Week 4 - Layering and preparing binding
- Week 5 - Machine Quilting
- Week 6 - Binding
The finished Quilt will be a lap Sized Quilt measuring 48” x 60”.

Fabric Requirements
For your colours, we recommend fabrics that are not too busy. Our batiks, Ombre, Fluidity and Iris fabrics are ideal for this quilt.
If using batiks, pre-washing is recommended.
