Introduction to Knits Sewing Workshop
Ready to conquer knits? In this fun and hands-on workshop, you’ll walk away with a completed Pattern Emporium Unwind Sweater that’s been entirely sewn on a serger! This class is perfect for anyone who owns a serger but isn’t totally comfortable using it, those who are curious about sergers and want to see what all the hype is about, or anyone just looking for a great time sewing with others in the community.
Patterns will be provided one week prior to class (included in the class price). Best of all, it's sewable in such a wide range of stretch fabrics. You'll need to have your pattern pieces cut out in advance so we can dive right into sewing on Saturday, October 19, from 9:30am - 12:30pm. Fabric should be prewashed but uncut. While fabric is not included in the class price, you’ll receive a 15% discount on your fabric purchase at The Sewing Cafe when you mention the class at checkout!
This workshop is taught by the talented Lisa Denham, so you’ll be in expert hands from start to finish! Get ready to build your confidence with knits and your serger in this relaxed and supportive environment.
Spaces are limited and our serger classes tend to fill quickly—if you want it on the fun, secure your spot now!
What should you bring to class?
Serger Machine: If you own a serger, bring it along, including the manual. This is important in case you need to troubleshoot or adjust settings during the class. If you don't have one, we have three demo sergers in store that can be reserved at no cost, but they need to be reserved in advance.
Prewashed Fabric: Bring the required amount of fabric for your garment or item. Ensure it's prewashed to avoid shrinkage after sewing. There is nothing worse than making a project that fits perfectly and then after washing it doesn't any more.
Thread: Bring 4 cones of serger thread, ideally in a color that matches your fabric. Most projects use matching or coordinating threads. We have serger thread available for purchase at the store.
Pattern Pieces: Make sure your pattern is cut out before the class. But not your fabric, we're covering how to best cut the type of knit you have in class.
Scissors and Rotary Cutter: These will help in case you need to make adjustments or clean up your edges.
Pins or Clips: For holding fabric pieces together before serging. We have these available for purchase in store if needed.
Tweezers: Sergers can be tricky to thread, so tweezers are a helpful tool to have if you have a thread break.
Seam Ripper: Mistakes happen, and a seam ripper can help you fix them. Also available in store for purchase.
Fabric Marking Tools: These can be helpful for marking hems or other adjustments during the project. Available in store for purchase if needed.
