Spool caps prevent the leading thread from catching the head of the spool while the machine is running. In general, it helps the thread properly unwind. Many Janome Machines feature horizontal spool pins for holding your spool of thread – this is so the thread winds off at a consistent rate. To stop the spool from bouncing around or slipping off, Spool Holders or ‘Caps’ are used to keep the spool in place and to allow thread to unwind around it smoothly. Available in two sizes, this larger spool cap is most useful for larger reels of thread. Use a smaller size for general household-sized reels of 1000m or less.
