Introduction to Free Motion Quilting (FMQ)
Discover the art of free motion quilting using a regular domestic sewing machine without a stitch regulator. In this class, Maggie will show you how to move the fabric freely under the needle and use your sewing machine like a drawing tool to create stitched designs and textures.
During class, students will create a quilt sandwich and practice quilting on a panel with borders while learning essential free motion techniques. Maggie will also share helpful tips on posture and movement so you can quilt comfortably without putting strain on your body.
All materials needed for the practice panel are included in the class fee, so you can focus on learning the technique. The skills you gain in this class can be applied to quilting projects of any size—from smaller pieces to full-size quilts.
Machine Options:
You may bring your own domestic sewing machine or use one of ours.

If you are unsure how to prepare your machine, we recommend bringing it into the store before the class date so we can help you know how to set it up, there won't be time in class for this.
Optional:
If you have quilting gloves, feel free to bring them along. They can help with grip while guiding the fabric, but they are not necessary. We will have alternative grip aids available for you to try during class.
